Turning inserts

Turning inserts are tools used for metal cutting processes, mounted on lathes to perform rotational machining on workpieces. The primary function of turning inserts is to precisely cut the external and internal surfaces of workpieces, such as the outer diameter, inner hole, end face, and threads, to achieve the required dimensions, shapes, and surface finishes.

The materials for turning inserts typically include high-speed steel (HSS), cemented carbide, ceramics, cubic boron nitride (CBN), and diamond, among others. Different materials are suitable for various machining conditions and workpiece materials. Cemented carbide and ceramic inserts are particularly common in modern turning processes due to their high hardness and wear resistance.
